Six weeks with the Gush 2
I had the original Gush for about two years and I liked it more than I expected to. It was small, quiet, easy to travel with, and it did something almost nothing else in my drawer does, which is work on the head of the penis instead of the shaft. What it never quite managed was staying put. The Gush 2 fixes that, and then adds an oscillation pad that changed how I use the thing entirely.
I bought mine direct from Lovense at the end of July and I've had it in rotation ever since. Six weeks is long enough to get past the novelty, so here's the honest version.

What turns up in the box
Packaging is plain, which I appreciate. Inside there's the Gush 2 itself in that teal green silicone, the adjustable band, a magnetic USB charging cable and a small manual. That's it. No lube sachet, so grab a water based one at the same time because you will need it.
First thing you notice picking it up is the material. It's soft, properly soft, more like a squishy wing than a sleeve. The whole thing is open on both sides rather than being a closed tube, so it wraps around you instead of you pushing into it. It's 10.6cm tall, 5.4cm across the top and 3.3cm at the bottom, and it weighs almost nothing. It genuinely disappears in a drawer.
The other change from the first Gush is the button. It's moved to the bottom of the unit now, which sounds like a nothing detail until you're using it in the dark with one hand and you can actually find it.
Getting it on
The open design means size is basically a non issue. It sits over the glans and the top part of the shaft, and because the wings flex there's no hard limit the way there is with a closed stroker. If you're on the larger side this will still fit you. If you're not, the band takes up the slack.
That band is the bit that makes it worth upgrading. It threads through the body and cinches the wings tighter around you. Took me two goes to work out how it feeds through, and I'll admit I looked at the manual, but once it's on you can leave it on. Tighter band means more pressure, more pressure means more of that oscillation actually transfers into you. It also means you can let go, which is the whole point.
Hands free with a toy like this is usually a lie. You put it on, it slides off, you spend the next five minutes holding it anyway. With the band tightened up the Gush 2 stays where you put it, even lying on your side. That's the first male toy I've owned that's actually delivered on that.
In action
There are two things going on inside this toy and it took me a while to separate them in my head. There's a vibration motor, which is what you'd expect, and there's a separate oscillation pad that sits against the frenulum. Lovense quote up to 4,300 oscillations and vibrations a minute. Numbers are numbers, but the sensation is very different to a normal vibe. The vibration is a spread out buzz across the whole head. The oscillation is a fast flicking tap on one very specific spot.
Run them low and separate and it's a slow tease. I've used it for edging more than anything else, which is not something I bought it for and is now most of what I do with it. You can sit on the couch with it on, band cinched, phone in hand, and just leave it running low for twenty minutes. It's not going to finish you off at that level, it just keeps you right at the edge.
Ramp both up and it's a different toy. The oscillation on high against the frenulum with the band tight is intense in a way I wasn't ready for the first time. It's not the deep rumble you get from a big shaft vibrator, it's sharper and much more localised. If you're sensitive after you finish, and I am, get it off you quickly because it will keep going and it is not gentle about it.
Plenty of lube. I can't stress this enough. Dry it drags on the silicone and the oscillation just feels like scraping. Water based, a decent amount, top it up if you're going long. Done properly it slides and the pad does its job.
Where it falls down slightly is if you like a stroking motion. You can absolutely stroke with it, and it feels good, but the band that makes it hands free also makes it grippier than is comfortable for fast strokes. I ended up loosening the band for stroking and tightening it for hands free, which is fine but it's a fiddle mid session.
The app, and the Lovense ecosystem
Three buttons on the unit will get you through a session. The app gets you everything else. Pairing took under a minute over Bluetooth and it's held connection fine for me sitting in the next room, which is about as far as I've pushed close range control.
Inside the Lovense Remote app you get vibration levels you can set and leave, unlimited custom patterns you can draw yourself, sound activation that responds to whatever noise is in the room, and music sync. The music sync is a gimmick I fully expected to use twice, and I have used it twice, but the custom patterns are genuinely good. I've got three saved that I actually go back to.
The bigger picture is that every Lovense toy runs through this same app as part of the Lovense Ecosystem. That means app control, long distance partner control, your custom patterns shared across devices, interactive content, and the toys talking to each other across the range. If you already own something of theirs, the Gush 2 slots into it without you learning anything new. If this is your first Lovense toy, that's the thing worth knowing before you buy, because it changes what a second toy is worth later.
Long distance is the obvious use. My partner has had the app on her phone controlling it from work, which is either a great idea or a terrible one depending on how your day is going.
Battery, noise and cleaning
Charging is about 75 minutes on the magnetic cable and I've been getting a bit under two hours of use out of it at mid levels. On full whack it drops off faster, closer to an hour, which is more than enough. It has not died on me mid session, which is more than I can say for a couple of other toys I own.
Noise sits somewhere around 38 to 45 decibels depending on level. Under a doona you'd never hear it from outside the room. On high in a quiet room you can hear it, but it's a low hum rather than the angry wasp noise some toys make.
It's IPX7 waterproof so the shower is fine and cleaning is easy. Warm water, mild soap or a non alcohol toy cleaner, rinse it out. The open design is the hidden win here because you can actually get at every surface. Closed strokers are a nightmare to dry properly and this one is not.
Twelve month warranty when you buy from Lovense direct, which is standard for them.
What I'd change
- The band is a two hands job to fit properly the first few times. Once it's threaded you can leave it, but it's not intuitive.
- Loosening and tightening mid session to switch between stroking and hands free breaks the mood a bit.
- It eats lube. Budget for it.
- The teal is lovely but it's not exactly subtle if someone opens the wrong drawer.
None of those are dealbreakers. The band thing in particular is a five minute learning curve and then it's solved forever.
Coming next: the Gush 2 Motion
Worth knowing before you buy, because it affects what you're clicking on. Lovense have a follow up called the Gush 2 Motion. Same adjustable hands free design, same open wings, same oscillation and vibration, but with a gyroscope built into it.
What the gyroscope does is turn your movement into a signal. Tilt it, rotate it, shake it, and that motion drives the vibration of another connected Lovense toy in real time. So you wear the Gush 2 Motion, your partner wears something else from the range, and what you do physically controls what they feel. It works with Max 2, Solace, Solace Pro, Velvo, Calor, Mission 2 and Nora. Lovense are quoting up to 1 hour 38 minutes of playtime on it.
The important part for anyone buying today: the Gush 2 is being phased out and the Gush 2 Motion is its replacement. That transition is happening gradually and the timing is different country to country, mostly depending on how much Gush 2 stock is still sitting in local warehouses. If you click a Gush 2 Motion link and it hasn't launched where you are yet, you'll land on the Gush 2 page instead. Once the Motion does launch in your region, it works the other way and Gush 2 links send you to the Motion.
So if you go to Lovense and end up somewhere slightly different to where you expected, that's why. Either way you're getting the current model for your country.
My take is don't wait for it unless the gyroscope specifically appeals. If you want a toy for yourself, the Gush 2 is the same experience at what will probably be a better price while stock lasts. If you want the partner play angle, the Motion is the one worth holding out for.
Should you buy one?
If you already own a stroker and you're looking for more of the same, no. This is not that. It doesn't sleeve you, it doesn't simulate anything, and it's not going to replace a Fleshlight.
If you've never had anything that works on the head rather than the shaft, then yes, and I'd say that fairly strongly. The oscillation pad against the frenulum is a sensation you're not getting anywhere else at this price, and the hands free band is the first one I've used that actually holds. For edging and stamina work it's the best thing I own.
Here in Australia it sits around the $170 mark direct from Lovense and noticeably more through the local retailers. Wherever you are reading this, check the comparison table below before you click anything. On the day I wrote this the gap between the cheapest and the dearest Australian listing was close to seventy dollars for exactly the same box, and that pattern holds in every country we track.
Two years on from the first Gush this is the upgrade I actually wanted. Fix the grip, add the oscillation, keep it small and quiet. Job done.
